When formulating its assessment, the committee will also take into account the possible presence of students with special educational needs derived from a disability, so that these students can compete on equal terms with the rest. The objective numerical quantification of this circumstance will be determined in each case by the nature of the disability and its degree, according to the criteria of the committee which, where appropriate, may gather whatever complementary information it deems necessary.
The University of Valladolid has an integration programme for people with disabilities and specifically for students with disabilities, which aims to facilitate inclusion and the greatest possible self-sufficiency for students with disabilities at the university.
Once the student with a disability requests it, the required support is arranged in order to achieve independent integration in university studies. To this end, the Social Affairs Secretariat has organised activities such as: direct support from classmates through the voluntary provision of accompaniment, help in finding a place in the classroom, help in following classes, etc.
Technical support is also offered, such as information on administrative issues during the enrolment period, recording of texts for the visually impaired, acquisition of adapted equipment when appropriate, arrangements for the relevant adaptations in exams, etc.
In addition, technical assistance is offered from the Universia Product Bank, as the University of Valladolid and the UNIVERSIA Foundation have an agreement for the loan of technical aid and support to university students with disabilities who require them for practical classes, exams, etc.
The institution also promotes various awareness-raising activities in the university environment for people with disabilities, with the aim of influencing the university community vis-à-vis promoting social awareness of physical and/or sensory diversity. These awareness-raising activities are carried out throughout the academic year and involve students, lecturers, administrative and service staff as well as collaborating organisations from the disabled community.
